Police chief, city end employment relationship Friday, December 22, 2017 11:56:06 EST AM Chief Robert Keetch's tenure heading Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is coming to an end. Keetch and Sault Ste. Marie Police Services Board “have agreed to end their employment relationship,” a City of Sault Ste. Marie release issued Friday says. He will remain as chief until his successor is found. Board chair Donna Hilsinger declined comment on Keetch's upcoming departure. “Employment matters are not something I can comment on,” she told The Sault Star. “We sincerely thank him for his service to our community over the last three-and-a-half years. We're thankful that he's willing to support the service until we find a successor for him.” The board typically meets the last Thursday of the month. But media were told on Thursday, a day before Keetch's announcement, no meeting will be held next week. Instead, said Hilsinger, the board will meet again in January “to discuss how we proceed in the search for the new chief. “I would expect us to do it as quickly as possible, but taking the necessary time to ensure that we find the best candidate for the position.” Keetch started his career with Ontario Provincial Police in 1982 and worked with Greater Sudbury Police Service for nearly 30 years before becoming Sault chief. He was paid $197,990 in 2015. Hilsigner called Keetch's work with Neighbourhood Resource Centre on Gore Street a “very positive addition to support our community.” The centre held its grand opening in May 2014, a month before Keetch became chief succeeding Bob Davies. About three dozen groups, including Algoma Public Health, Ontario Works and John Howard Society, work out of the downtown office.http://www.saultstar.com/2017/12/22/chief-keetch-to-stay-on-until-successor-found
